Here is a list of some famous DELANO relations.

Amassa Delano
A soldier in the Revolutionary War at the age of 15, he became a sea captain and merchant. His published writings chronicled his seafaring voyages of commerce and discovery around the world and inspired Herman Melville's story entitled "Benito Cereno." Amassa was the great, great, great grandson of Philippe's son Thomas.

 

George Dewey
Admiral Dewey was the only person in the history of the United States to have attained the rank of Admiral of the Navy, the most senior rank in the United States Navy. His best known victory was the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. Noteworthy, this battle was conducted without any combat loss of life. George's great grandmother on his father's side, Amey Delano, was the granddaughter of Philippe's son Jonathan.

 

Paul Delano
A sea captain from Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Captain Delano moved to Chile in 1819 where he became an important part of that country's early Navy and the progenitor of the Delano Family in South America. Paul was the great grandson of Philippe's son Jonathan.

 

Ulysses S. Grant
Serving under President Lincoln, this legendary Army General and brilliant military strategist led the Union to victory in the Civil War. Grant went on to become the 18th President of the United States, serving two terms. Ulysses' great grandmother on his father's side, Susanna Delano, was the granddaughter of Philippe's son Jonathan.

 

Jane Arminda Delano
An innovative and indefatigable nurse, she founded the American Red Cross Nursing Services and organized it as the reserve of the Army Nursing Corps to be ready for the U.S. entry into WW I. Jane was the 5th-great granddaughter of Philippe's son Thomas.

 

Franklin Delano Roosevelt
The 32nd President of the United States, he was the only president ever elected to four terms. His leadership guided America through two of the most devastating events in U.S. history: the Great Depression and WW II. Franklin's mother, Sara Delano, was the great, great granddaughter of Philippe's son Jonathan.

 

Laura Ingalls Wilder
Laura was the author of the Little House on the Prairie series of children's books, which were based on her childhood in a pioneer family moving west in the 1870's. Since their initial publication in 1931, her books have been continually in print and translated into 40 languages for worldwide distribution. Laura's great grandmother on her father's side was Margaret Delano, great, great granddaughter of Philippe's son Jonathan.

 

Alan Shepard, Jr.
An astronaut and the first American in space, he later commanded the Apollo 14 mission and was the fifth person to walk on the moon. A graduate of Annapolis, he was deployed on a destroyer in the Pacific during WW II. Alan's great, great, great grandmother on his father's side was Anna Delano, great granddaughter of Philippe's son Jonathan.
